Psychology, B.A./Applied Behavior Analysis, M.A.
The Department of Psychological, Social, & Behavioral Sciences at Georgian Court University offers select undergraduate students majoring or minoring in psychology the opportunity to apply to the B.A. to M.A. in Applied Behavior Analysis Advanced Admission Program (formerly "4+1"). Upon acceptance into the program, undergraduate students can take up to 12 graduate credits toward the Master's degree in ABA. Successful completion of each course will count toward both a student's undergraduate degree AND their master's degree in ABA.
For acceptance, students must meet the following criteria:
- 60 credits completed total, and 12 of these credits in Psychology
- 3.0 GPA overall, and 3.2 GPA in just Psychology courses
- Grade of A in either PS332 (Psychology of Learning) or PS333 (Introduction to ABA)—both courses are strongly recommended in preparation for the master's level courses.
- Complete a personal statement explaining the applicant's interest in the BA-to-MA program.
- Students outside the Psychology Scholars Program must provide a letter of recommendation from the Department of Psychological, Social, & Behavioral Sciences faculty attesting to the ability of the student to succeed in the M.A. program. Students in the Psychology Scholars Program must provide an affidavit from the director of the Psychology Scholars Program attesting to their successful progress toward program requirements.
- Complete an Advanced Admission Application to the B.A. to M.A. in ABA program.
- Complete an interview with the director of the M.A. in ABA program.
Students who meet the above criteria may be accepted into the M.A. in ABA program and may take up to four graduate-level courses while they are undergraduate students (these courses also count as electives toward the undergraduate degree).
If you would like to apply but do not meet all of the requirements listed above, you should address this fact in your personal statement, and provide an explanation of why you should be expected to succeed in our program (e.g., if there were extenuating circumstances that caused your lower grade or GPA, and if you are taking additional coursework for a higher grade, or you have recently acquired ABA work experience under the supervision of a BCBA). Acceptance into the M.A. program is conditional upon continued performance at the same level as described above, and graduate coursework must be completed with grades of B- or better.
