M.D. programs with Western Atlantic U School of Medicine

Two program options are available to earn the M.D. degree from Western Atlantic University School of Medicine (WAUSM):  Accelerated Combined Bachelor/MD Program (Six-Year Program), and Early Admission Program.

Accelerated (6 Year) Combined Bachelor/MD Program

The Accelerated Combined Bachelor / MD Program (the “Program”) allows qualifying students to earn their B.A./B.S. and MD degrees in as few as six years. The Program implements a dual admission process where select students are concurrently admitted to GCU and conditionally admitted to WAUSM. Students in the Program maintaining good standing at GCU and completing at least 90 credits at GCU including the WAUSM prerequisite coursework during their first six (6) terms at GCU, including summer term; meeting required proficiency standards; and meeting all other WAUSM admission requirements (other than obtaining a B.A./B.S. degree) and WAUSM Technical Standards can proceed to their first year of medical school at WAUSM as an advancing student.

Participating students must maintain good standing at GCU pursuant to GCU’s standards in order to remain in the Program and advance to WAUSM. Advancing students complete their remaining GCU coursework requirements by completing the first two (2) terms at WAUSM. Advancing students are considered to be dual enrolled in GCU and WAUSM. Students who maintain good standing and complete the first two (2) terms at WAUSM with grades of Pass (70%) or higher will be awarded their B.A./B.S. degree by GCU and are eligible to continue their medical education at WAUSM.

The Program consists of 7 terms in 2.25 years (90 credits) at GCU, two dual enrollment terms at WAUSM, and the rest of WAUSM’s curriculum of three (3) terms per calendar year such that students may earn their MD degree and qualify for the residency match within six years of matriculating at GCU.

Early Admission MD Program

The Early Acceptance and Transition to MD Program (the “Program”) allows qualifying GCU students to apply for and be granted Early Acceptance to WAUSM and transition to the WAUSM MD degree while completing their GCU bachelor’s degree. Students granted Early Acceptance to WAUSM who complete at least 90 credits at GCU including the WAUSM prerequisite coursework and meet the Proficiency Standards may then proceed to their first year of medical school at WAUSM as an “advancing student.” Students who are admitted into the Program and meet the standards for advancement under the Program are guaranteed a seat at WAUSM.
