Interdisciplinary Studies, B.A.
Upon successful completion of the program of studies for Interdisciplinary Studies, the student will receive a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies and will have given evidence of the following outcomes and goals:
- The analysis of human experience from multiple disciplinary perspectives as evidenced by student portfolio.
- Application of research methods and tools from at least one discipline within a capstone project.
- Writing and speaking proficiently in informal (classroom and digital) and formal (presentations) settings.
- Application of the skills of the interdisciplinary studies major to a profession through completion of career modules and directed internship opportunities.
To earn this degree, students must successfully complete at least 120 credits, including General Education requirements and the major requirements below.
Major Sequence
- One introductory course (IDS201 Exploring Interdisciplinary Studies) and one capstone course (IDS401 Seminar in Interdisciplinary Studies).
- 18 credits in courses at the 200 level or above in one of the following disciplines: American studies, business (including accounting, economics, and information systems), criminal justice, English, history, integrative health, religious studies, Spanish. Students also majoring in education select American studies, English, history, or Spanish as their focus area.
- 6 additional credits in courses at the 200 level or higher from any of the disciplines listed above or from world languages or philosophy. These courses will be selected under advisement to complete the major concentration.
- One full academic year within the program is required prior to enrolling in IDS401 Seminar in Interdisciplinary Studies.
